Being able to fake a fuller lip should be up there with basic makeup skills like knowing how to do a perfect cat-eye (we’ll get to this in a later post) and being able to swipe on mascara while in the midst of a conversation. It’s safe to say the luscious lip trend—made famous by Kylie and Instagram selfies—has officially graduated to a staple beauty look. Even if it’s not your vibe, it doesn’t hurt to know the simple steps it takes to transform your pout from barely-there to “where’d you get your lips done” status. Celebrity makeup artist, Rokael Lizama (aka the mastermind behind Beyoncé and Ariana Grande), is here to teach us exactly how to create the illusion of larger lips with his product recommendations (even if it’s only for a night).

Exfoliate with a lip scrub or toothbrush to remove dead skin.
Over-draw the lip line using a lip liner.
With a flat brush, use foundation to create a crisp line tracing the outside of lips.
Fill in lips with a nude lipstick. Use a lighter tone in the middle of the lip (as opposed to a darker tone) to make your lips look fuller.
For extra dimension, use a lip gloss with a little sparkle.
