Hailee Steinfeld is something of a beauty scavenger. No matter what corner of the world she’s in, or what era she’s channeling for her latest role, she’s building her skin and makeup repertoire. She even procured pearls of wisdom while playing famous poet Emily Dickinson on the Apple TV+ show Dickinson, which starts its second season next month. “It’s obviously very minimal, but one thing that is fun is learning the tips and tricks from the 1800s,” explains Steinfeld. “They would take berries and use that as a lip stain or [for] a little color on the cheeks.” In the year 2020, Steinfeld is trading juicy fruits for Victoria Beckham Beauty’s coveted Bitten Lip Tint, among other beauty secrets. Here, the 23-year-old actor, singer, and songwriter shares her everyday skin-care routine and minimalist approach to makeup.
After cleansing her face, Steinfeld preps her face with Kora Organics Noni Glow mask, leaving it on for no less than 10 minutes as she drinks out of her supersized water jug. “I’ve been working my whole life, [or] what feels like my whole life, and so I’ve traveled and had different people in different parts of the world do my makeup in different ways, doing different techniques,” explains Steinfeld. “I think it’s become more and more important to me, but I’ve always been really obsessed with taking care of my skin and making sure that it is the best that it can be.” Next, she applies a rich layer of La Mer moisturizer, which she loves because it “sits really well” underneath her foundation, and a generous amount of EltaMD sunscreen, following the number-one beauty tip passed down from her mom. “She’s always told me, since day one: stay out of the sun!” says Steinfeld.
To create a glowing complexion, Steinfeld mixes two of Giorgio Armani’s Luminous Silk Foundations together for a bespoke match against her spray tan, then uses NARS Creamy Concealer for extra coverage. Then, it’s contour time. “I’ve overdone this a couple times, and that’s never a good thing,” Steinfeld says with a laugh as she carefully swirls the tawny pigment onto her cheeks. “I’m gonna keep it real light, real fresh, real glowy.” To add warmth to her complexion, she dips her finger into a creamy rose blush, blending it into the apples of the cheeks and across the lids, before lining her lips and swiping on Victoria Beckham Beauty’s rosy Lip Tint.
After running a spoolie through her lush arches (“I never leave the house without an eyebrow brush!” says Steinfeld), she curls her lashes and wiggles on a few coats of mascara. “It does wonders, doesn’t it?” she poses, admiring her fanned-out fringe. She then takes down her brunette lengths and steps into a cloud of YSL’s floral Libre fragrance to complete her routine. “That, ladies and gentleman, is my everyday look!”
