If the next line you want to read is “ploughs through a tub of Ben & Jerry’s while watching Netflix,” then look away now…
OK, so Pati Dubroff might be partial to a bit of Ben & Jerry’s and Netflix, but she also allocates some of her evening to treating her skin and winding down.
Dubroff is the go-to make-up artist for the likes of Margot Robbie, Kate Bosworth and Jessica Biel, and she’s known for putting as much effort into prepping their skin as she does applying make-up to it.
We already know about her obsession with jade rollers (she claims that by massaging the skin before applying foundation, you’ll need less coverage). But we’ve since discovered another chilly before-bed ritual on her Insta Stories, which she refers to as a facial ice plunge.
In a nutshell: she literally puts her skin on ice.
Participants of SAS: Who Dares Wins have probably experienced something similar (with more mud and Ant Middleton swearing in their face). Honestly, it sounds like the last thing we’d want to do before slipping under the duvet for some much-needed zzzs, but Dubroff swears by it, saying, “I find I sleep better, deeper. Feel calm.”
She also explains that it’s not just great for reducing inflammation and “snatching” the skin (which we assume means closing the pores and tightening), but for “supporting the vagus nerve.”
She goes on to encourage her followers to read up on it, which we immediately did, and it’s actually pretty interesting…
The vagus nerve is a cranial nerve that runs from the brain and communicates nerve impulses to the rest of the body. It’s thought that by stimulating it using extreme cold, you can reduce anxiety and fatigue.
Obviously we suggest you read up on the practice yourself before even considering giving it a go – some skin types might not react well to the extreme temperature, and dunking your face in water does come with its risks…
